Abstract:
The increasing interest in environmentally friendly transportation highlights electric motorcycles as a potential alternative to traditional motorcycles in Vietnam. However, the intention and willingness to purchase electric motorcycles among students remain limited. This study aims to identify the factors that act as barriers to students' intention to purchase electric motorcycles in Ho Chi Minh City, within the context of the shift towards green transportation. The novelty of this research lies in its focus on the student demographic, a group that has been underexplored in studies related to electric motorcycles in Vietnam. Using a convenience sampling method combined with snowball sampling, 409 questionnaires were collected from students in Ho Chi Minh City, and multiple regression analysis was applied to test the hypotheses. The findings reveal five key barriers influencing the intention to purchase electric motorcycles, ranked in descending order: infrastructure barriers, environmental barriers, usage barriers, technological barriers, and financial barriers. The contribution of this study is to provide empirical evidence to the theoretical framework of the intention to purchase electric motorcycles, approached from the perspective of barriers. The practical implications suggest that businesses and policymakers should prioritize enhancing infrastructure, increasing technological trust, adjusting pricing strategies, and improving communication efforts to promote the consumption of electric motorcycles among the student population.
